My Royal Enfield
This is not about Jazz, however anyone who is interested in old bikes
may enjoy this page.
My first ever bike when I was 16 years old was a 350 1949 Royal Enfield it was the first with telescopic forks and it cost me £35.00 I bought it on HP at 17s .6p a month my mum signed the hp agreement. I passed my test on it 53 years ago and had some great ride outs on it. I think I gave it away to a friend when I got my next bike a BSA 650 Rocket and I rebuilt the engine. Many bikes have I had and sold on that I wished I had now. Last British bike I had was a Ariel Square Four G 1952 1000cc again I sorted it from the ground up. Sadly sold it for a fair price about 10 years ago. Most bikes on sale these days are low bars, big fairiings and sound like sewing machines. To list the bikes I have had would cover at least 30 bikes. The last one I sold a year ago was my beloved 750 Moto Guzzi Strada 750 it became to heavy for me to manage.

ROYAL ENFIELD 350 BULLET 1999 - THIS IS A MODEL THAT WE HAVE HAD FOR MANY YEARS AS A REFERENCE MACHINE. IT HAS JUST HAD BRAND NEW FUEL TANK, SEAT, R/H TOOLBOX, EXHAUST SYSTEM, MUDGUARDS WITH STAYS, BATTERY, TAILLIGHT AND SET OF INDICATORS. THE BIKE IS UK REGISTERED, ON SORN AND WILL NEED SOME MINOR WORK TO GET RUNNING AND THROUGH MOT. £850.00
I called them and they say it has only done less than 1000 miles since new as it has only been used by them to try out after market products to see if they fit. It has stood in the showroom for years. The minor work needed is :- the new fitted taillight and indicators need to be connected (the connector does not match the one on bike) New battery probably needed, Carb will need cleaning, oil change required, points checking over, General check that all stays are properly connected and tightened up ok. I asked them why dont they do the jobs and sell it higher priced? he said they just do not have the time. Just had 15 x police 500cc R Es delivered from India and they all need sorting and selling on. They are a family business and only few staff. It seems their main business is parts and after market products that are avaiable for R Es. They do not repair bikes as general rule.

There are other things I have done to it and will add them as they come back to my memory bank. Hitchcocks supplied most of the new parts and were great on quick delivery of them and helpfull when questioned about technical stuff.
The Bike Passed MOT on 14/05/2010. and again in 2011 It runs very well cruising at 60 to 65mph and I tested for top speed on the flat with no wind sitting upright and it got up to 75mph if I ducked down and pushed it probably reach 80. But why bother at my age of 69; 60/65mph+ is fine. I have been from Newcastle to Wales and Lincolnshire and lots of local 50 to 60 mile run outs and she never misses a beat and always starts on first or second kick. No oil leaks! I can sit on it for good length time smiling and enjoying that thumping sound of a real single. I passed my test on an the English 1949 version bullet over 53 years ago so I am now back to were I started.
