We have toured the jazz clubs of Europe with many great musicians including some from New Orleans and others from all over the world. The band is a regular feature in the North East of England's jazz scene. When at "The Bell and Bucket pub in Wallsend they recorded their first album called "Newcastle to New Orleans". The album sums up the real earthy and exciting sounds of the traditional N.O. jazz they play.</div> <div> As the band evolves and changes Liz and Paul continue to lead with a positive approach towards the New Orleans jazz style. Many words would be needed covering the many generations of jazz music to describe the bands fresh natural sound. The varied repertoire includes hundreds of popular jazz, gospel tunes and some home grown arrangements. Their main influences are from the early traditional bands, including Bunk Johnson, George Lewis, Kid Thomas, Sammy Penn, Ken Coyler and other jazz greats.</div> <div> The band is not restricted and repetitive and the musicianship brings development and style with an edge for creative music and personal touch. The melody is always present but the musicians have a freedom that gives the overall sound freshness and excitement. The band can be experimental but remain rooted in the traditions of New Orleans jazz.</div> <div> Paul has been playing this style of jazz for over 60 years and together, Liz and Paul have not compromised their love for the revival jazz sound. They always prefer the freedom of musical expression as encouraged by all the innovators of true jazz music. The Mississippi Dreamboats produce sounds that touch emotions and make the musical experience exciting. Liz inspired by late George Lewis for over 42 years, has been playing clarinet alongside Paul on the drums for over 35 years. </div> <bR> <div> WHAT WE PLAY</div> <div> <I><B>The repertoire of The Mississippi Dreamboats is a familiar variety of tunes, old and new. There is a saying in New Orleans “It is not what you play but the way that you play it” The Band has a unique sound that is a fusion from influences including Gospel, Blues, Ragtime and New Orleans revival.
